I love kettlebell training. Today I got a sudden inspiration for creating some photos involving those lovely weight training devices.

We had a really cold day in Helsinki last Tuesday. The sun was shining really low, as it always does this time of year here. I thought the frozen sea surface was really nicely colored and took some photos.

Random street view in Helsinki, complete with a bird.

Kamppi is a central district in Helsinki, Finland. I took a stroll there today, photographing in a lovely almost horizontal sunset light around 2pm.

Some macro shots and other views inspired by the holiday.

I teach mathematics at University of Helsinki, Finland. Last fall I wanted to include some contemporary applications in the course material, so we simulated a so-called "photobomb" in class. You can see the image below. There are some Lego knights posing formally, but a flying hippo is ruining the shot (Thus the use of the term "photobomb"). I showed the class how to remove such a nuisance using a classical mathematical technique called "Poisson kernel." Results are shown below.

I tested my brand-new X-ray imaging laboratory at University of Helsinki.

I had a day off and did some augmented-reality nature photography.

I spent yesterday with my wife and friends in the forests of Luukki, located in Espoo, Finland. The main purpose of the trip was to pick mushrooms, which we did find plenty (especially funnel chanterelles, yum). However, the fall colours were irresistible to me, so I often stopped to take some macro shots.
