I worked as a visiting researcher in Berkeley, California, in fall 2010. One day I rented a car and drove North to Point Reyes National Park. I had read that McClures Beach is especially beautiful by sunset. Well, you can judge for yourself from the pictures below!

I went out today for a short macro shoot made even shorter by freezing-cold rain. The handheld material meant for crude focus stacking did not quite do the trick, so I ended up with a couple of silly combination images. These are not to be taken seriously!

Landscape

Spring is (almost) here in Finland, and I find myself looking at blooming flowers and bustling arthropods. Here are a few brand-new photographic samples:

Asakusa is an old and traditional district of Tokyo. Both domestic and international tourists consider it as a must-see destination. Here is a view of the famous market street leading to the Senso-ji temple:

Yamanashi Prefecture in Japan is known for its wine production. (I mean European style grape-based wine, not Japanese rice wine called sake which is made in several other areas in Japan.) As a medium-time wine enthusiast I wanted to check out local wines in Katsunuma city in the heart of Yamanashi Prefecture. As far as wine goes, I think the Japanese winemakers are doing a decent job but still have some catching up to do to reach the level of best European or American producers. Photographically, though, I think Katsunuma is spectacular.

Plum trees are blossoming right now in Tokyo. Here are a few photographic interpretations of the beauty of fresh flowers.

I visited Shanghai Jiao Tong University in September 2013. The campus is located a bit away from the bustling centre of the city, and I really liked the relaxed atmosphere.

I used to photograph people with medium-format film cameras loaded with black and white film. I always developed the film myself in the bathroom and spent considerable periods of time in various darkrooms.

In the summer of 2013 I made several photographic excursions to Sipoonkorpi National Park. It is only 25 kilometers away from the centre of Helsinki, so it is easy for me to make a day trip there.

I found a bunch of pretty animals in the park. A visual reportage is given below. 

Cheesy and overshot as they may be, appearances and disappearances of the sun can be spectacular. Here are a few samples from my archives.
